Making Your Child Comfortable at the Dentist
As a parent, nothing is more important to you than your child's health and well being. You go to great lengths to ensure that they eat healthy food, and get plenty of exercise and rest. Their health care is also a priority, and at Oak Family Dental, we understand how critical the first few visits to the dentist are to ensure a lifetime of success at the dental office. Most patients who are afraid of the dentist report having a bad experience during a childhood visit. We don't ever want this to happen to your child, so we take great measures to ensure that your child has a great visit and hopefully looks forward to their dental appointments. As your children's dentist in Metairie, we have some information on what you can expect when you bring your child to our practice.
The First Visit
Our doctors recommend that your child's first visit take place around the age of one. We'll start with what we call a Happy Visit. This is an easy and fun appointment designed to acclimate your child to the dental office. They'll sit with you in the big chair, see our instruments and tools, and just begin to become comfortable in their surroundings. Only when they're receptive and ready will we examine or clean their teeth, and this may be after a few Happy Visits. These first few visits will allow us to look for any developmental concerns and discuss what to expect for your child's oral health with you.
Additional Services for Children
As your child gets older, our doctors may recommend fluoride treatments for your child, which will help to strengthen and build their teeth. We also offer dental sealants , which help to protect their teeth from tooth decay and cavities. If your child participates is sports, you may want to consider a customized mouth guard to protect their teeth from injury. Our doctors can make recommendations as to the best type of mouth guard for your child.
