"From the moment I walked into the door I felt as though I was the most important person in the room. I was waited on promptly. The dentist came in to greet me and to make sure he wasn’t needed. My dental hygienist was wonderful and caring. She did a great job on my cleaning and took the time to provide future dental advice. Great atmosphere!" -Deborah P.

If you or your teen experience symptoms due to the development of your wisdom teeth, give us a call! We provide extractions for wisdom teeth in Metairie, LA, that will protect the health of your smile.

Not all wisdom teeth face extraction – just the ones that give you a problem! For some people, they can keep their wisdom teeth their entire lifetime. If they are able to brush and floss them effectively, they can enjoy relatively healthy wisdom teeth without complications. For other patients, however, removing wisdom teeth is the only way to prevent them from causing damage to the rest of your smile.

Common Wisdom Teeth Problems

One of the most common problems with wisdom teeth is that they do not have enough room to erupt properly. Since they are all the way at the back of your upper and lower jaw, if they do not have enough room, they may push against your other teeth and cause pain. Oftentimes, they cannot erupt at all. This is called impaction.

Other problems can include wisdom teeth that cause overcrowding between your other teeth. If they do have enough room to erupt, they can still cause your other teeth to crowd together and overlap. This is not ideal, as it puts your bite at risk.

For patients who opt to keep their wisdom teeth, they can face a host of other issues. Your wisdom teeth are difficult to keep clean because of their location and because they may come in at odd angles. This makes them more susceptible to decay and periodontal disease. Prolonged infection can even create an abscess, which is quite painful and puts your health at risk.

We offer wisdom teeth evaluations in our Metairie dental office so that you can get the answers to the most important question – should they stay or should they go? Call us today to schedule an appointment!
