When should my child see a dentist for the first time?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends children see a dentist by their first birthday, or 6 months after their first tooth erupts. At this visit, the dentist will review how to care for an infant or toddler's mouth, proper use of fluoride, oral habits (including finger and thumb sucking), ways to prevent accidents involving the face and teeth, teething, and the link between diet and oral health.
