At Oak Family Dental, we stress preventative dentistry and try to avoid extracting teeth at all costs. However, it may be in your best interest to have a tooth removed. There are many reasons why teeth need to be extracted.
Typically teeth are removed because they are deemed non-restorable. Meaning a crown, filling, root canal, etc. cannot be done to save the tooth. A tooth can become non-restorable due to a very large cavity, a crack or break, periodontal disease or infection. Another reason teeth have to be removed is for crowding issues. Often when teeth are very crowded, an orthodontist will request teeth to be removed to make room for the other teeth.
