What is a sealant?
It is very common for our teeth to start to decay over time. Teeth usually start to decay from foods and drinks in your diet and from normal wear when eating. In order to protect your teeth, it is essential to practice good oral habits such as brushing and flossing regularly. Another way to prevent decay is to use tooth-colored sealants.
A sealant is a thin tooth-colored material that seals deep grooves and pits of teeth. Teeth, such as molars, with deep grooves and pits are more prone to decay because they are difficult to clean. By sealing these cavity-prone areas, the chance of developing cavities decreases. Permanent molars are typically sealed when they have fully erupted into the mouth.
