• "From the moment I walked into the door I felt as though I was the most important person in the room. I was waited on promptly. The dentist came in to greet me and to make sure he wasn’t needed. My dental hygienist was wonderful and caring. She did a great job on my cleaning and took the time to provide future dental advice. Great atmosphere!" -Deborah P.

What is tooth wear?

Dentist Metairie LATooth wear starts when the outer layer of teeth, enamel, starts to wear down prematurely. Many factors including the way we chew, our diet and medical problems, such as acid reflux can cause teeth to wear. Clenching and grinding during sleep even causes tooth wear. To prevent wear we recommend regular removal of bacterial and acids from the mouth through brushing and mouth rinses. It is also a good idea to reduce the amount of acid in our diet, such as sodas. If you are clenching and grinding at night a night guard may be recommended. The treatment of tooth wear depends on the underlying cause of the wear so the first step is to diagnose the cause of the tooth wear. This may require visiting a physician for a physical. There are many ways to build teeth back up to prevent wear or to at least slow the damage.
