What is tooth wear?
Tooth wear starts when the outer layer of teeth, enamel, starts to wear down prematurely. Many factors including the way we chew, our diet and medical problems, such as acid reflux can cause teeth to wear. Clenching and grinding during sleep even causes tooth wear.
To prevent wear, we recommend regular removal of bacterial and acids from the mouth through brushing and mouth rinses. It is also a good idea to reduce the amount of acid in our diet, such as sodas. If you are clenching and grinding at night, a night guard may be recommended. The treatment of tooth wear depends on the underlying cause of the wear so the first step is to diagnose the cause of the tooth wear. This may require visiting a physician for a physical.
Fixing Tooth Wear
There are many ways to build teeth back up to prevent wear or to at least slow the damage. We can build your teeth back up through the use of tooth-colored dental bonding. Bonding acts as part of your natural tooth and is completely unnoticeable.
