Implant-Supported Dentures

The benefits of implant-supported dentures are they offer more stability than a removable prosthetic and are more affordable than All-on-4 or All-on-6 full-arch implant dentures. Implant-supported dentures offered at our Metairie, LA, dental office are also removable by the patient for cleaning.

Removable Implant-Supported Dentures

A traditional dental implant consists of the implant post and a tooth restoration with a piece called an abutment that connects them. With implant-supported dentures, instead of an abutment, nylon O-rings are attached to the implants in the jaw.

The denture is then custom-crafted with corresponding attachments making it easy for the patient to snap them on and off—this is why you will also hear these prosthetics referred to as snap-on dentures.

Easy Care for Removable Implant Dentures

Because implant-supported dentures are removable, you can clean them easily by brushing them with non-abrasive toothpaste. This step removes any biofilm accumulated on the dentures and rids the artificial teeth of any surface stains.

Before you go to sleep, place your appliance in denture solution so it doesn't crack and dry out while it's out of your mouth.

One of the most significant benefits of dental implants is that they are meant to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. However, due to regular wear and tear, implant-supported dentures in Metairie, LA, typically need to be replaced every 10–15 years.

Also, unlike a traditional dental implant that uses an abutment to connect it to the restoration, an implant-denture uses nylon O-rings fitted around each implant. The O-rings make it easy to snap the denture in and out of the mouth but can also wear out over time and should be replaced every one to five years.

Proper Care for Implant-Supported Dentures

Proper care for your implant-supported dentures includes brushing them twice daily to remove biofilm and surface stains on the artificial teeth.

Before going to sleep, place your appliance in a glass of denture solution to prevent it from drying out and cracking.

Be sure to visit your Metairie, LA, dentists every six months so we can clean your appliance and check the condition of your dental implants. Most people don’t realize they can develop periodontal disease even with most teeth missing, so our hygienists will also make sure your gums are healthy.

Learn More about Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are a solution for denture-wearers who want a more stable prosthetic and improved chewing function. If you want to see if this tooth replacement option is for you, please call Oak Family Dental to schedule an appointment.

If you want a more stable tooth replacement than conventional removable dentures and a more affordable option than full-arch dental implants, implant-supported dentures are ideal.

Implant-supported dentures are anchored to your jawbone with two dental implants. They won’t slip, unlike removable dentures that rest on top of the gums with no additional support.

Also called snap-on dentures, implant-supported dentures are stable and will allow you to eat, speak, smile, and interact with others confidently. Please continue reading to learn more, or call our Metairie, LA, dental office to schedule a consultation appointment.

How Implant-Supported Dentures Work

Implant-supported overdentures are ideal for replacing teeth in the lower arch, where removable dentures typically have less support.

Our Metairie, LA, dentist places the implants in your lower jaw at our dental office under local anesthesia, so you remain comfortable. While healing for 4–6 months, the implants fuse with the jawbone, and this process is called osseointegration.

Your dentures are custom-crafted with attachments underneath that snap onto the implants so you can remove them for cleaning.

Are Implant-Supported Dentures for You?

At Oak Family Dental, we also offer the option of dentures supported with 4-6 implants for the ultimate security and stability. If you want to learn more about our implant denture options, please call our Metairie, LA, dental office to schedule an appointment.
